For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith —and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.

PASTOR'S PONDERING

Ness Canon offers some advice on

“When You Don’t Know How to Surrender to God”

Here is her conclusion….

“In my experience, I have found that the times that I most need to surrender my heart to God are the most scary, and tender points in my life. Please be compassionate with yourself as you approach these times. Being hard on yourself for not “fully surrendering” or having to continuously surrender these to God are counter-productive and doesn’t yield much progress. Instead, try to meditate on God’s character. This week try to take a good look at Isaiah 46:4 and look back at your life. How have you seen God carry you? In what ways has he sustained you? How has he rescued you?

Sometimes taking a look back at all the ways God has been ever present in my life, allows me to trust him with my present struggle and need. Dwelling on all of these consistent ways God has been safe to surrender in days

past gives me the ability to surrender to him tomorrow.”

IN LOVING MEMORY OF 'JODI' DEARING

The Women's Book Study planted two lilac bushes by the side entrance of the church in loving memory of our dear friend Jodi, who is now with our Lord.

But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.  And after my body has decayed, yet in my body I will see God! I will see him for

myself. Yes, I will see him with my own eyes. I am overwhelmed at the thought!

Job 19:25-27

ONE GREAT HOUR OF SHARING

It’s our love offering to the world. This month DBC is joining American Baptists around the world in giving to those in need, around the world. All money placed in the “One Great Hour of Sharing” envelope will be given to help rebuild from disasters, feed the hungry, provide clean water to the thirsty, empower the oppressed and restore hope. Place your gift in the offering plate. Thank you.

THE "OPEN DOOR CAFE" REOPENS

A group of concerned individuals have been meeting to figure out what is needed in our community. Transportation was one of the needs they discovered and they have come up with a plan to schedule a van route to the Bristol peninsula to offer free rides up to town and to Hannaford. The idea of offering a place to wait and socialize was presented and the “Open Door Cafe” seemed like a place that would work. The plan is to give it a trial run, beginning Wednesday, June 24th. We are looking for volunteers to host the cafe on Wednesdays, from 10am-2pm. You could stay for two hours, or more. This would mean making coffee and hot water for tea and setting out donated snacks and sandwich makings. Then hanging out with anyone who comes by for a free snack and conversation. Then cleaning up. Please talk with Marilee if you are interested or have questions.
