HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Ecumenical Food Pantry is located on the lower level of the Second Congregational Church (51 Main Street, Newcastle – see map below) from 9:30 to 11:00 every Tuesday morning. The pantry serves residents of the towns of Damariscotta, Newcastle, Nobleboro and the larger community.
The pantry was started in 1989 as a volunteer operation and it still remains manned totally by volunteers. There are as many as 25 people assisting visitors on any Tuesday, and there is always room for more. Several of the volunteers are over 80 years old!
Thanks to the generosity of their donors, they are able to offer a wide variety of fresh food including meat, cheese, eggs, and milk purchased locally. During the summer they get fresh vegetables donated by local farms. Hannaford provides fruit and vegetables as well as bread and desserts from their shelves year round. In addition to food distribution, the Food Pantry distributes diapers to families in need. In addition, there are representatives from the housing authority to assist with housing needs.
The Ecumenical Food Pantry is open every week year round and is run entirely by volunteers
and there is often a need volunteers working on a weekly basis:
