It is based on 5 daily readings with 2 days for catching up! R.C. Sproul, in "Chosen by God," famously taught that while humans are free, God's sovereignty is absolute;  A key quote is from this book is:   "God is free. I am free. God is more free than I am. If my freedom runs up against God's freedom, I lose. His freedom restricts mine; my freedom does not restrict his".  Starting January 4th, we will be worshipping downstairs where it will be warmer and cozier! Remember...the first Sunday of each month will include a fellowship meal after the service. If you are able, we would love to have you bring something to share. Toby and Sara Shannon have extended an invitation for a short term mission trip. Information is on the small table at the back of the sanctuary. **“Bible Women, All Their Words and Why They Matter" by Lindsay Hardin will be the subject of this ongoing study** **We’re so glad that you have stopped by! Our church family is made up of individuals from all walks of life who come together to seek hope, purpose, and community. It’s a place where questions are welcomed, faith is nurtured, and lives are changed through the love of Christ. No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, there’s a place for you here.** **We join together to worship God, grow together in faith, and share His love with the world. Each week, we gather to celebrate His goodness and reflect on how we can live out His teachings in our daily lives. Whether you’re a lifelong believer or just beginning to explore your faith, you’ll find a welcoming and supportive community here.** **We believe in the power of prayer and the transforming love of Christ, and we strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued and loved.** - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") - [Ministry Opportunities](/ministry-opporunities "Ministry Opportunities") - [Sermons](/sermon-series "Sermons") - [Contact Us](/contact-us "Contact Us") - [Online Donation](/online-donation "Online Donation") - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") - [Ministry Opportunities](/ministry-opporunities "Ministry Opportunities") - [Sermons](/sermon-series "Sermons") - [Contact Us](/contact-us "Contact Us") - [Online Donation](/online-donation "Online Donation") - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") - [Ministry Opportunities](/ministry-opporunities "Ministry Opportunities") - [Sermons](/sermon-series "Sermons") - [Contact Us](/contact-us "Contact Us") - [Online Donation](/online-donation "Online Donation") - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") - [Ministry Opportunities](/ministry-opporunities "Ministry Opportunities") - [Sermons](/sermon-series "Sermons") - [Contact Us](/contact-us "Contact Us") - [Online Donation](/online-donation "Online Donation") --- ## URL: https://www.dbcme.org/our-mission ### Title: Our Mission ### Page ID: 7251493 ### Content: # Our Mission: #### **Damariscotta Baptist Church** **During the Worship Service, children can join together for Arts & Crafts.** - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") - [Ministry Opportunities](/ministry-opporunities "Ministry Opportunities") - [Sermons](/sermon-series "Sermons") - [Contact Us](/contact-us "Contact Us") - [Online Donation](/online-donation "Online Donation") - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") - [Ministry Opportunities](/ministry-opporunities "Ministry Opportunities") - [Sermons](/sermon-series "Sermons") - [Contact Us](/contact-us "Contact Us") - [Online Donation](/online-donation "Online Donation") - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") - [Ministry Opportunities](/ministry-opporunities "Ministry Opportunities") - [Sermons](/sermon-series "Sermons") - [Contact Us](/contact-us "Contact Us") - [Online Donation](/online-donation "Online Donation") - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") - [Ministry Opportunities](/ministry-opporunities "Ministry Opportunities") - [Sermons](/sermon-series "Sermons") - [Contact Us](/contact-us "Contact Us") - [Online Donation](/online-donation "Online Donation") --- ## URL: https://www.dbcme.org/what-we-believe ### Title: What We Believe ### Page ID: 7251494 ### Content: #### **What Is the Gospel?** #### **The Bible** #### **The Human Condition** #### **Jesus Christ** #### **The Work of Christ** #### **The Holy Spirit** #### **Christian Living** #### **Christ's Return** #### **Response and Eternal Destiny** ## Learn through community. #### **Damariscotta Baptist Church** At our church, you will hear the word “gospel” repeatedly because it is the most important truth that we can know and experience. The gospel is not merely a message that needs to be shared with non-Christians, but also with Christians. It is not something that mature Christians move on from, but rather something that they move deeper into. The gospel is the lens in which we should view theology, ministry, and all aspects of life. The Apostle Paul defined the word “gospel” concisely in 1st Corinthians 15:3-5 when he wrote, “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.” Simply put, the gospel is all about Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, and the implications it has for us. The word “gospel” literally means “good news.” It is the good news of God taking on flesh through the person Jesus Christ and rescuing mankind by His perfect life that we could never live, His substitutionary death that we deserved, and the resurrection that now gives us true life through His Spirit. While the gospel can be stated in a sentence, it is also the grand narrative that is told throughout the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. The gospel is the glorious story of how God is reconciling the whole world back to Himself through the life, death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. It is personal, yet cosmic. It is simple, yet infinite. *God's gospel originates in, and expresses, the wondrous perfections of the eternal, triune God.* We believe in one God, eternally existing in three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who know, love, and glorify one another. Perfectly equal in their divinity, however subordinate in responsibility; the Son submits to the will of the Father & the Holy Spirit is submitted to the will of the Father & the Son. This one true and living God is infinitely perfect both in His love and in His holiness. He is the Creator of all things, visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy to receive all glory and adoration. Immortal and eternal, He perfectly and completely knows the end from the beginning, sustains and sovereignly rules over all things, and providentially brings about His eternal good purposes to redeem a people for Himself and restore His fallen creation, to the praise of His glorious grace. (Genesis 1:2, 26; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17; John 1:1-5; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Peter 1:16-21) *God's gospel is authoritatively revealed in the Scriptures.* All Scripture is self-attesting and, being Truth, requires our unreserved submission in all areas of life. The infallible Word of God, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments, is a complete and unified witness to God's redemptive acts, culminating in the incarnation of the Living Word, the Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible, uniquely and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, is the supreme and final authority on all matters on which it speaks. (Matthew 5:17-20; John 16:12-13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21) Being estranged from God and condemned by our sinfulness, our salvation is wholly dependent upon the work of God's free grace. God credits His righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation, thereby justifying them in His sight. Only such as are born of the Holy Spirit and receive Jesus Christ become children of God and heirs of eternal life. (Gen. 3; Ps. 143:2; Is. 53:6; Rom. 3:23; I Jn. 1:8-10) *God's gospel is made known supremely in the Person of Jesus Christ* We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus, Israel’s promised Messiah, was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and advocate. ( Lk. 1:35; Jn. 1:1, 14:6; Acts 1:1-10) *God's gospel is accomplished through the work of Christ.* We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation and being made right with God. (Rom. 3:21-26; Eph. 1:27; Heb. 7:22-28) *God's gospel is now embodied in the new community called the Church.* We believe that we are not simply saved as individuals, but that we are saved “into” something called the Church. This is given many different names in Scripture but the primary one is that of a family or the “household of God” (Eph. 2-3). We are to relate to God as our Father and each other as brothers and sisters “in Christ.” This leads to a deep loving community that displays the power of the gospel to a watching world (John 13:35). We believe that the local church is an autonomous group of believers who join their lives together by the Gospel. Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer. The local church is governed by the scriptures and operates under the Lordship of Christ with Pastor-Elders leading the people toward faithfulness in Christ. The office of the Pastor-Elder is limited to men as qualified by the scriptures. (Acts 2:42-47; Eph. 1:22-23; 1 Pet. 2:9-10) *God's gospel compels us to Christ-like living and mission in the world.* We believe that God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With the gospel, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed. We believe that all Christians are called to a life of godly character, devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ and service to Him.  We believe that the gospel is not only the entry point into the Christian life, but is also the dynamic by which we relate to God. Growing in godliness happens by continually reflecting on the gospel, or “good news” of Jesus’ death and resurrection on our behalf. As we reflect on this, and God’s Word, we become aware of just how big the separation is between our sinfulness and God’s standard. This often happens simultaneously with growth in holiness. As we become more and more aware of just how big the separation is, the gospel becomes more and more important, the cross becomes more and more central, and, as a result, we are driven to worship, rather than pride or despair. (Eph. 5:18; 2 Cor. 6:14, 7:1, Rom. 12:1-2, Eph. 4:32, Col. 1:22-24) *God's gospel will be brought to fulfillment by the Lord Himself at the end of this age.* We believe in the personal, glorious, and bodily return of our Lord Jesus Christ with His holy angels, when He will exercise His role as final Judge, and His kingdom will be consummated. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the just and the unjust—the unjust to judgment and eternal conscious punishment in Hell, as our Lord Himself taught, and the just to eternal blessedness in the presence of Him who sits on the throne and of the Lamb, in the new heaven and the new earth, the home of righteousness. On that day the church will be presented faultless before God by the obedience, suffering and triumph of Christ; all sin purged and its wretched effects forever banished. God will be all in all, His people will be enthralled by His holiness, and everything will be to the praise of His glorious grace. (Matt. 24:29-31, 36-51, 25:31-46; Lk. 12:35-48,16:19-31; 2 Pet. 3:1-13; Rev. 20:11-15, 21:1-8, 22:6-21) *God's gospel requires a response that has eternal consequences* We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen. (Jn. 5:24, 3:16; Mk. 9:43-50; 2 Thess. 1:9 The best way to really know and understand what we believe at Anthem is being involved in one of our local community groups. If you have questions for any of our staff, feel free to reach out and email them or call our church office to speak with them. Jeremy grew up near Washington D.C. where he worked in the business world for five years before moving to California and deciding to become a pastor. After attending seminary, Jeremy moved to Boise where he planted Anthem Church. Over the last decade, Jeremy has taken the small community and helped it to grow into the thriving community we are today. Riley moved to Boise directly from Philadelphia, where he lived and worked until he was 22. Before moving, Riley led outreach programs on the streets of South Philly; working mostly with the homeless to provide them with food, shelter and any other necessities. Prior to that, Riley’s favorite job was working as a security guard at Phillies games. Sarah and her husband Ross moved to Boise in 2002 from New York. They've since been blessed with their wonderful children Reggie and David. Sarah has been a pianist since she was 8-years old, eventually moving to Manhattan where she attended Juilliard and earned her doctorate. When she isn't leading our congregation in worship, Jennifer likes to spend time with her family and write music. Jessie grew up in a small town outside of Seattle, Washington. She studied Biology and Chemistry at Concordia in Portland, but decided to pursue a career in ministry after feeling called by the Lord immediately after graduation. Feeling pulled to the Boise area, she moved to Boise in 2007 with her husband Brian, and started at Anthem in 2010. Mason has over 6 years worth of experience working in children's ministry, including a two years at another church in Boise. Mason was born and raised in Boise, and loves the community she grew up in. Her heart for kids started simply with babysitting as a high school and college job, then after receiving her degree in Education, decided to pursue full-time ministry. At Anthem, we don't pretend to serve our community alone. We have so many partners and co-laborers we whole-heartedly support (both financially and with our time and other resources) that we would love to put you in contact with. This is our process for discipleship. Out of this gospel-centered service is the overflow of discipleship, serving those in and outside the church. One of the ways we pursue and live out this discipleship trait is through volunteer opportunities Volunteers in Anthem Kids minister to our 1st - 5th graders during weekend worship services through singing, telling stories and teaching the truth of God's Word with the children. They check in kids, lead classrooms, provide assistance to classroom teachers and sing or play in the worship band. We're always looking for great individuals to love and serve our kids, and help show the love of Christ to them during our gatherings. If you're someone who would like to serve, or just know a little bit more about Anthem Kids, please connect with us. **Sunday Gatherings:**Those serving in our Student Ministry on Sundays get the opportunity to build and foster relationships with students, ministering them through the teaching of Scripture, worship and intentional discipleship.  **Midweek Gatherings:**Student Ministries also meets together midweek for games, community, teaching and bible discussions. We start the evening together playing games and hearing a message, specially crafted for middle and high school students. **Sunday Gatherings:** Our Sunday morning gatherings are the beginning for most people at Anthem. We need people who can serve as set-up and greeters, as well as members of the worship team.  **Community Groups:** Because our Community Groups are so central to the life here at Anthem, we are always in need of more people to host, lead and co-lead a group. Donating your time is not the only way to serve at Anthem. There are recurring costs to operating and staffing our ministry, as well as helping us do work throughout our community and the world. We believe that God calls us to give, and to give generously. We give you a chance to worship in this way on our website. As Jesus left this world, his parting words to his disciples were: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." We invite you to experience what the gospel means both intellectually and relationally at one of our Sunday worship services. You can engage with others as much as you want, or remain anonymous if you prefer. We hope that through visiting with us, you will experience the hope, love and joy that comes from a community of people who love Jesus. We look for God’s love in our lives as the evidence that we have been truly worshipping Him. At Anthem Church, worship is central to everything. Worship means learning to recognize God’s goodness while delighting to deepen in our responses.  It means purposing together, as individuals and as a community, to unite our actions, intentions, and emotions in loving response to God. It means transforming the ways we think so that what we do and who we are become one—in, for, through, and to the Father, Son, and Spirit. We believe that practical, relevant teaching is the catalyst for transformation in an individual's life. Scripture is inspired by God, completely accurate and our authority regarding Christian beliefs and the guide for Christian living. We value Scripture—the Bible—as the basis for understanding who God is and how to orient our lives fully around Him. You can expect that each Sunday morning will include a set-aside time for hearing from Scripture, as well as practical teaching surrounding God's Word. We know that attending a church service for the first time can be a super scary thing... Being unsure of what the dress, culture or even when to stand up and sit down can be a weirdly paralyzing thought! At Anthem, you can expect friendly and authentic people, engaging and relevant music and worship, compelling preaching from the Bible, and an opportunity to encounter God. You will be encouraged and maybe even challenged. We've created a first-time visitors guide that will help you navigate your first time at an Anthem gathering, and help ease any questions or concerns you might have before attending. Whether you are tithing in obedience to Malachi 3:10 or contributing over and above your tithe as an act of sacrificial generosity, your money will help us minister God’s hope and healing to our community and beyond. We give in order to be blessed, not for fear of anything negative in our lives. We give out of gratitude and love! You can give your gift safely and securely online - this is one of the easiest ways to give to our church. Thank you. Anthem believes in creating opportunities to serve and bless our local Boise community. 50% of your financial contributions stay in the area, enabling us to do the work that God has called us to in our local community.  We have specific ministries we support, as well as our own initiatives that we spend your generous donations on. If you would like to have a list of these specific ministries so you can know exactly where your contributions are going to, please feel free to click the link below and request this list.  When Jesus commissioned his disciples before His ascension, He said, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." At Anthem, we take this command of making disciples in all nations very seriously, which leads us to giving 50% of your tithe and offerings to work God is doing globally. We have missionaries sent from Anthem, as well as Global Partnerships living out the Great Commission all over the world.  - [All About Us](/all-about-us "All About Us") - [Calendar](/calendar "Calendar") -
