“The Significance of Palm Sunday”
There are five things in the Palm Sunday story that remind us that Jesus Christ is still King:
The Palm branch represented victory – we need to remember, through all the restrictions, disruption and confusion, Jesus has victory over all things, including a virus.
The donkey Jesus rode symbolized “peace.” Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and He offers us peace, a peace that passes all understanding. May we rest in that peace through this pandemic.
The people who covered the path with their coats and palm branches shouted the word, “Hosanna!” This word actually means, “save now.” If there was ever a word that we need today, it is Hosanna.

In Luke, chapter 19, verse 41 we read, “When the city came into view, he wept over it.” Even though He had just been praised by the people, Jesus knew just how bad things were about to get. He also knows just how bad things are going to get today. He had a plan then, and He has a plan today.
Palm Sunday reminds us that God’s plan is greater than anything humans could conceive or contrive. The day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, the people thought He had come to save them from the Roman government. God had a bigger plan. He came to set us free from death.
We celebrate the Lord’s Supper today and as we do this, let us be reminded that we have a Savior. A Savior who is the resurrection and the life. As we partake of the elements let us be reminded and encouraged that there is nothing, nothing, absolutely nothing, nothing is impossible with God.
